Buckhead roughly covers the interior of the “V” formed by Interstate 85 on the east and Interstate 75 on the west. Buckhead is bordered by Cumberland and Vinings in Cobb County to the northwest, the city of Sandy Springs to the north, Brookhaven and North Druid Hills in DeKalb County to the east, Midtown Atlanta to the south, and West Midtown to the west.
The business core of Buckhead provides amenities that make the surrounding residences convenient to shopping, restaurants and more within walking distance. Well known areas of Buckhead are the Miami Circle Market Center, The Governors Mansion, The Museum Of Contempory Art Of Georgia (TULA Art Center), and the many area parks.

In the 1990s, Buckhead’s population got a boost with the arrival of about 20,000 Texans who relocated to Atlanta when the Texas economy went into a downturn. Many of them settled in the neighborhood. The area of South Buckhead began styling itself as an arts district as a number of new art galleries and chic eateries opened, going so far as to call itself “SoBu.” Due to its wealth, Buckhead is sometimes promoted as the “Beverly Hills of the East” or “Beverly Hills of the South” in reference to Beverly Hills, California, an area to which it is often compared.
But Buckhead’s appeal is not in its latest additions but in its long history, palatial homes and luxurious greenery. (Its proximity to downtown also counts for a great deal in gridlocked Atlanta.) The Governor’s Mansion, a rambling structure of bay windows and mansard roofs, is located here, as is the Atlanta History Center, the Ritz-Carlton hotel and a number of private clubs such as the Piedmont Driving Club.
Buckhead is still the first address for Atlanta’s rich and powerful. Executives from Coca-Cola, and more recently CNN, are still clustered in Buckhead. Among members of the Forbes Four Hundred are Anne Cox Chambers, of the Cox newspaper empire, Arthur M. Blank of Home Depot and Ted Turner of Time Warner live in the neighborhood, while rocker Elton John is a part-time resident.
